About the Role 
Alumni Ventures (AV) is seeking an experienced Controller to lead and continuously improve our accounting operations. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), this role is responsible for developing and maintaining accounting processes, practices, and controls to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
The Controller will manage a broad range of accounting activities including month-end close, financial reporting, audit preparation, and support of budgeting and forecasting. This role partners closely with executive leadership, department heads, and teammates across the firm, requiring strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset. The role can be based in our Manchester, NH (preferable) or Boston, MA office. 
This position is a hybrid role, with an expectation that this individual will work in the office M/T/Th/F. 
What You'll Do
<ul>
<li>Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of AV's general ledger structure and financial reporting processes</li>
<li>Lead accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes</li>
<li>Ensure the timely production of monthly financial statements and reporting packages</li>
<li>Oversee accurate and timely processing of positive pay transactions</li>
<li>Support budgeting and forecasting activities in partnership with the CFO</li>
<li>Collaborate with finance teammates to support departmental goals and continuous improvement</li>
<li>Respond to financial inquiries from the CFO, executives, and internal stakeholders</li>
<li>Partner with the CFO to ensure a clean and efficient year-end audit</li>
<li>Support special projects and workflow/process improvements</li>
<li>Oversee expense reimbursement processes and expense management platforms</li>
<li>Partner with the HR team on payroll, 401(k) true-ups, and related accounting matters</li>
<li>Ensure proper accounting treatment for all equity and debt activity, including supporting schedules and documentation</li>
<li>Ensure timely completion of all year-end filings (e.g., Form 5500, 1099s)</li>
<li>Maintain up-to-date knowledge of GAAP, FASB standards, and relevant tax regulations</li>

Who You Are

<li>8+ years of progressive accounting experience</li>
<li>Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA strongly preferred</li>
