Summary/Objective:
Apply knowledge of automation principles to collaborate with peers in the design of products, automation systems, robotics and controls systems.
Essential Functions:
(This description is not all inclusive, other duties may be assigned):
• Responsible for contributing to the specification and design of automation systems used in the manufacturing industry. Code and requirements development, safety specifications and selection, simulation and functional testing, product acceptance testing, installation, training and start-up assistance.
• Project level automation technical lead. Will participate in customers meetings and may provide input to engineering proposals, device selection and schedule estimates related to job activities.
• Responsible for providing mentorship and guidance for junior engineers.
• Cooperate in the development of new products including proof of concept, assembly, testing, and evaluation.
• Participate in all aspects of controls automation including but not limited too; drafting electrical schematics panel and component specification/layout, wiring, programming, troubleshooting...
• Contribute to operational feasibility and propose solutions by evaluating requirements, customer process and engineering concepts and designs.
• Develops software solutions by studying information needs, conferring with customers and senior staff, and studying system flow and work processes.
• Documents and demonstrates solutions by developing flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, charts, code comments and clear code.
• Assists in enhancing Automation capabilities by continued research into industry standards and best practices.
• Provide a communication link to Senior Engineering, Marketing/Sales and Field Service departments concerning customers and commercial equipment.
• Assist manufacturing and purchasing departments in the selection and/or substitutes for new and obsolescent parts with equivalent parts.
• Support field personnel with the troubleshooting of equipment and installation of new products
• Assist in the investigation and evaluation of product improvement suggestions
• Submit verbal and written reports of activities and recommendations to supervisor
• Perform other related duties as required or directed
• Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

Supervisory Responsibility:
• May be responsible for supervising more than five people when engaged in training programs, exhibitions, or commercial machine installations.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

Periodically requires after normal hours and weekend work.
Travel:
Domestic and international travel may be required.
Required Education and Experience:
• Bachelors in Automation, Mechanical, Electrical or Computer Science or equivalent.
• Practical experience and knowledge of complex automated systems including PLC, HMI, Motion (VFD, Stepper, servos, robotics); vision platforms and PC/proprietary systems.
• Electrical/Electronic theory training.
• Experience with programming and integration of industrial robots
Preferred Education and Experience:
• Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in manufacturing or other technical field working on automated systems.
• Ability to produce and read electrical schematic diagrams and layout electrical control panels.
• Formal training and/or certification in any programming language (VB, C, C#).
• Experience with machine vision systems to include specifying camera, lenses, lighting solutions and vision tool programming
