Job Description

The Process Engineer drives continuous improvement by implementing and upgrading processes across the company. This includes identify and commissioning new equipment, monitoring and recommending improvements of production processes to ensure consistency and improve yields and cycle times, creating procedures to document and create training material for processes, and looking for ways to improve safety, quality, and sustainability.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Production Processes

  • Monitor production processes and recommend improvements to prevent deviations, improve yields, and shorten cycle times.
  • Conduct risk assessments of product processes to determine critical steps in the process. Determine if additional controls are needed to be added to ensure quality.
  • Analyze historical data for trends and implement improvements based on findings.
  • Design experiments to test potential improvements utilizing lab scale or pilot plant.
  • Troubleshoot production issues and recommend improvements to prevent future occurrences

Process Implementation

  • Guide changes through change management to ease implementation of new and updated processes.
  • Conduct process validation activities to ensure effectiveness of change.
  • Create standard operating procedures and work instructions to help aid implementation of new/updated processes.
  • Train personal on new/updated processes.

Safety

  • Participate in safety risk assessments to identify opportunities for improvement
  • Recommend changes in process or equipment to improve safety for the site
  • Help in implementation of safety improvements

Quality

  • Identify and implement improvements to prevent process errors across the organization.
  • Help maintain the QMS by being a champion of change management and ensure impacts are accessed before implementing changes
  • Be a key resource in CAPA investigations and implement corrective actions to prevent future occurrences

Sustainability

  • Identify and implement improvements that will reduce waste, utility consumption (water, electricity, natural gas) in line with the company’s sustainability goals.
  • Capture and report sustainability metrics in support of sustainability reporting (Ecovadis)

CAPEX

  • Researches, identifies new equipment needed to drive improvement in the plant. Creates budgets for Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) projects and oversees implementation.
  • Collaborates with production team to determine equipment needs and identify correct equipment for purchase
  • Gather quotes and determine optimal vendor(s) for equipment procurement.
  • Create business case for new equipment to be presented to the leadership team.
