This contract nursing opportunity is ideal for experienced RNs skilled in step-down care and telemetry. The role focuses on providing advanced cardiac and medical-surgical nursing within a 20-bed Cardiac Medical Unit. Nurses in this setting manage patients requiring close monitoring who have complex cardiopulmonary needs but are stable enough to be outside the intensive care unit.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide nursing care to patients in a cardiac step-down unit with a patient ratio of approximately 5:1.
  • Monitor and manage patients with cardiac conditions, including those requiring telemetry.
  • Perform advanced procedures such as thoracentesis, pacemaker monitoring, trach care, cardiac catheterization post-care, and CIWA assessments.
  • Utilize equipment including IV pumps, Bipap, Hi-flow oxygen delivery systems, and Kangaroo pumps.
  • Document patient care accurately through the Meditech Expanse system.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including LVNs, LNAs, and unit clerks to ensure quality patient outcomes.
  • Participate in bedside shift rounds and patient handoffs to optimize continuity of care.
  • Adhere to unit-specific policies and professional dress code with required certifications (e.g., ASLS, BLS).

Qualifications:

  • Registered Nurse (RN) licensure required.
  • Proven experience in telemetry and cardiac step-down care.
  • Competence in advanced clinical skills and procedures relevant to cardiac patient management.
  • Certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support preferred.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work within a fast-paced team environment.

Schedule:

  • Typically 3 twelve-hour shifts per week, including every other weekend or a flexible 4-week shift schedule.
