About the Role:

Pine Haven Boys Center is set on just over 100 acres located 10 minutes south of Concord and 15 minutes north of Manchester.

Pine Haven is a private, non-profit, non-sectarian, intensive residential facility that cares for boys with behavioral, educational, and emotional challenges due to severe neglect and trauma.

We are looking for candidates who are interested in beginning or continuing a career in the Human Services field. The ideal candidate is interested in modeling and teaching healthy life skills and behaviors for kids using trauma-informed and therapeutic approaches.

Distinguishing Characteristics:

Pine Haven is seeking a committed and empathetic Residential Counselor to join our team in Allenstown, NH. This position involves working directly with boys ages 6 to 13 in a structured residential setting, providing guidance, supervision, and emotional support to help them navigate behavioral, educational, and emotional challenges. Our ideal candidate is patient, reliable, trauma-informed, and dedicated to fostering a safe, nurturing environment where each child can grow and succeed both personally and socially.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain an appropriate and constructive relationships to help the children learn and grow.
  • Create and maintain a therapeutic environment.
  • Teach and model leisure and daily living skills.
  • Organize and participate in recreational activities.
  • Manage behavior and set limits.
  • Provide supportive counseling/treatment.

In this position, the right candidate must be willing to:


  • Acquire and/ or possess counseling, listening, and crisis intervention skills
  • Acquire and/or possess the ability to deal with issues of sexual abuse/acting out
  • Take part in Treatment Planning process, communicate insights and observations.
  • Be nurturing, tolerant. Fair in providing rewards and consequences.
  • Be aware and meet the confidentiality requirements.
  • Continue education through reading, seminars and workshop attendance, to expand knowledge of general psychology and specific recreational/counseling techniques.

Schedule:

  • Our schedule runs in two groups:
  • Sunday-Wednesday and Wednesday through Saturday.
  • Weekday shifts typically go from 3:00pm - 10:00pm and weekend shifts run 8:00am-10:00pm.
  • Holidays and school vacation days will mirror the weekend shifts.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age.
  • Possess a valid driver's license.
  • A bachelor's degree in related field preferred. Associate's degree Minimum.
  • Must possess the verbal techniques necessary to de-escalate a crisis situation
  • The physical ability to control aggressive, violent behavior in a therapeutic, safe way.
  • Able to become certified in Crisis Prevention Intervention, First Aid and CPR.
  • Weekend and night availability are required for this position.

Compensation:

  • We pay generous wages, above market rates for the impact the staff makes on the clients served. Pay: $23.70 per hour.

Education/Requirements:

  • Required: Direct care staff shall be at least 21 years of age, have a high school diploma, high school equivalency certificate, or general equivalency diploma, and meet one of the following pre-service training and education requirements:
  • (1) An associate's or higher degree with a minimum of 12 credits in the field of human services,
    or other field related to residential care, awarded by a regionally accredited college or university.
  • (2) The equivalent of 2 years of full-time experience working with children, either as a paid employee or volunteer.
  • (3) Any combination of college credits in human services and experience with children that total

Experience:

  • Crisis intervention: 1 year (Preferred)
