A position is available for a registered nurse skilled in step-down care within a cardiac medical unit. This contract role is based in Derry, NH, with the opportunity to work in a specialized setting focusing on cardiac and telemetry patients.
Responsibilities include providing high-quality nursing care on a 20-bed cardiac step-down unit. The unit supports patients transitioning from critical care areas such as CSSU and IVCU and manages conditions including cardiac management, stroke overflow, and other complex cardiopulmonary issues. Nurses will perform advanced procedures such as thoracentesis, tracheostomy care, pacemaker management, and cardiac catheterization monitoring. The typical patient ratio is 5:1, with a collaborative team including RN partners, licensed nursing assistants, and unit clerks. Documentation is maintained using Meditech Expanse.
Schedule details:
- Three 12-hour shifts per week
- Every other weekend
- Four-week shift rotations
Candidates should possess:
- Registered Nurse (RN) licensure
- Proficiency in telemetry monitoring and cardiac patient care
- Certification in Advanced Stroke Life Support (ASLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Experience with cardiac procedures and complex patient needs such as high-flow oxygen and BiPAP management
- Ability to work professionally in a clinical setting adhering to uniform and unit policies
Working on this unit offers exposure to a high-acuity environment in a hospital recognized as a STEMI center, stroke center, and Level II trauma center. The team utilizes advanced equipment including IV pumps, Hiflo respiratory devices, and Kangaroo pumps. This role demands strong clinical skills and collaboration for bedside shift rounds and comprehensive patient handoff.
