ABOUT OUR CLIENT:

MP's Client a 25-bed, non-profit community hospital designated as a Critical Access Hospital. The hospital endeavors to offer the best of two worlds - the warmth and friendliness of a small town and the technical expertise of modern medicine. Located in Wolfeboro, NH, they provide primary care, diagnostic testing and specialty services in the region. They provide medical services to the region's year-round population of 30,000 residents and approximately 120,000 seasonal residents and visitors who come from all over the world to enjoy the Eastern Lakes Region and the communities of: Alton, Brookfield, Effingham, Freedom, Madison, Moultonborough, New Durham, Ossipee, Sanbornville, Sandwich, Tamworth, Tuftonboro, Wolfeboro and surrounding towns.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

Under the general supervision of the Director of Emergency Department Operations, is responsible for performing various clerical duties and relays messages from patients to nursing personnel.

Quality & Risk Management:

  • Maintains communication documentation and electronic log books related to admission, discharges, Ambulance Transfers, deaths, quality tracking, and unusual occurrences
  • Promptly updates Risk reporting system, Ambulance Transfer Log with shift transfer activity
  • Uses established reporting mechanisms to communication facilities, equipment, computer infection prevention, employee health issues, risk management issues (electronic facility/biomed work request, IT Help Desk tickets, Symplr event reporting)
  • Actively participates in departmental continuous survey readiness activities, departmental collateral duties, quality reviews and performance improvement projects
  • Follows Huggins Hospital's mission, vision, and philosophy of care

Patient Advocacy:

  • Protects the patient's rights, dignity and privacy, maintains confidentiality either spoken or when sending faxes
  • Protects the patient from infection using appropriate handwashing technique
  • Assists staff with adjuncts for non-English speaking, hearing and sight impaired, and patients with medical literacy challenges
  • Take proactive steps to recognize and report suspected abuse/neglect including child, elder, sexual abuse, spousal abuse, and reports to charge nurse, physician and/or supervisor

Clerical Competencies:

  • Medical chart maintenance, establishes and assembles charts for patient admission, breaks down discharged charts and checks for completeness of documentation, completes other clerical and technical tasks as assigned
  • Proficient computer skills including computerized order entry, cross trained to electronically register patients as needed
  • Promptly posts all patient reports in the charts accurately and in a timely manner
  • Assures all sent out labs, culture results, final x-rays and other testing results are placed in the medical record for MD to review
  • Maintains cleanliness of the workstation and common spaces, assist with restocking and ordering office and medical supplies and office and medical equipment as needed
  • Promptly responds to patient calls via call bell system, locates and relays messages to nursing personnel immediately
  • Answers phone professionally with courtesy to caller, relays messages accurately and timely. Contacts other departments, hospitals and agencies via phone, writing or personally as requested Aware of organizational and departmental safety and emergency procedures, demonstrates how to call for assistance/ help, location of departmental panic button, video monitors, emergency phone, radios

Clinical Competency:

  • Under the direct supervision of a registered nurse assists with patient care activities and promptly reports any observed changes in patient's condition to nurse or physician
  • Performs and documents vital signs, height, weight, intake, output and reports any changes out of range of normal
  • Obtains laboratory specimens as appropriate, i.e., finger stick glucose testing, urine specimens and transports to lab as necessary
  • Within scope of practice, assists with dressing changes, casting and splinting
  • Performs 12 lead EKGs
  • Responsible for timely turnover of exam rooms, with attention to best practices of infection prevention for decontamination and cleaning
  • Responsible for timely restocking of exam rooms and department supplies.
  • Carries out roles assigned as part of the care team during emergency department trauma cases and resuscitation efforts (CPR, runner, order entry, documentation, etc.)
  • Performs safe transportation of patients within the facility, utilizing safe lifting and transport adjunct equipment and good body mechanics
  • Performs post-mortem care and aids in the transportation of the body to the morgue
  • Performs similar or related duties as required or directed
  • Serves on committees and attends meetings as requested

  • Displays commitment to continuous learning, annually attends learning events, training sessions that will further job skills

  • Attends and participates in a minimum of 50% department staff meetings and signs off on review of 100% department staff meeting minutes
  • Completes all required annual education on or before the due date

WHAT YOU NEED:

  • One (1) year experience as a HUC or related healthcare job, preferred.
  • Able to understand medical terminology.
  • Experience with electronic health records.
  • One (1) year experience as a LNA/EMT with Emergency Department experience, preferred.
  • License and Certification: Certification as a C-HUC preferred, BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required
  • State of NH LNA license and/or Nationally Registered EMT certification with NH license
